São Benedito Church in Cabo Frio undergoes renovation
The São Benedito Church, located in the Passagem neighborhood of Cabo Frio, will undergo a renovation led by the Comsercaf (Municipal Urban Cleaning, Beetles, and Waste Collection Company) in order to restore its original beauty. The project began on Friday (27) with cleaning and weeding around the historic building, in an area known as Largo São Benedito. The next phase, scheduled to start on Monday (30), consists of painting the church.
Historical significance
Built in 1761, the São Benedito Church was initially constructed to house the slaves who were members of associations. At the time, the square in front of the church was used by them to play capoeira, dance jongo, and engage in other cultural activities.
Revitalizing the square
The square surrounding the church is also being revitalized. On Friday, the area received tree pruning, the installation of grass on the flower beds, as well as the planting of bromeliads and the repainting of the sidewalks. The lighting has also been improved. These renovations aim to benefit both the local population and tourists.
Improvements in other squares
The Comsercaf is also conducting interventions in other squares throughout the municipality. On Friday (27), grass cutting and weeding services were performed in Tangará Square. Similar actions are happening in Irmã Fernanda Badate Camps Square, located in Jardim Olinda, which will be inaugurated on Friday at 6 pm. The square has also been repainted, the public lighting system was repaired, and new garbage bins were installed.
